Samson enjoying Christmas day

Case frying our turkey

RECORD HIGHS IN COLORADO

It wasn't your typical White Christmas in Colorado this year. On Christmas day it was a record 69 degrees. We ate our Christmas meal (which included a fried turkey) outside on the deck. Case's parents were in town for Christmas and we also invited many of our international friends over to share in the festivities.

Grandpa & Grandma Buchberger with Adlai

The Buchberger girls

My whole family came to visit for an early Christmas celebration. Here's a great shot of the four of us all grown up! Please note Jill's huge belly (just kidding).. she's due with her first baby in May!

You know you have a problem when ....

Yesterday Case received a package in the mail from his company. I assumed that they were sending him a Christmas gift because it came in a Starbucks box. However, (unfortunately for Case) it was his new company jacket. Later, we were cleaning up the house and Case took the box to the garage. Ella yelled out, "Daddy, where are you taking your coffee?" She is so familiar with the Starbucks logo, that she thought it was filled with the very product that led to his caffeine addiction!

Daddy and Mommy love me!!!

Saturday, November 12, 2005

Today as I was putting Adlai down for a nap, Ella told me that she wanted to sing one song to him. She sang the ABC song, which is her favorite song - we sing it a couple of times to her every night before she goes to bed. After she sang the song, I peeked in on her and she was praying over Adlai (which we also do with her every night). She said "Christy, Aaron, Jon, peoples, Mama, Daddy, puppy (her favorite stuffed toy) and paci. Amen" Christy, Aaron & Jon are on our small group and she wants to pray for them every night. It is a beautiful (and scary) thing that she wants to imitate what we do. How I want to be a good example for my daughter!

Ella has been having a lot of fun with her baby brother - probably because he's interacting more. He smiles all of the time and it is quite easy to make him laugh. He'll even crack himself up while he's playing with some of his toys.

What is going on at our house?? .. the never-ending process of raking all of our leaves. As you can see we started out with quite a task .. but Ella has enjoyed playing in them.

Last weekend Case was sucking up our leaves from about 10:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon. Somewhere in that time period, Samson ran away .. without his collar on. (We realized that he was gone about 5:30PM!! Yes, we felt awful that no one noticed that he was missing for so long.) We searched the neighborhood for him until about 7:00 and Case even went door-to-door with no luck. We were worried sick about him. The next morning, Case and Ella went to the humane society to look for him and thankfully he was there! It cost us $107.o0 to bail him out! Before he ran away we were commenting on how difficult it was to have a dog on top of our two children. This incident helped us to realize how much Samson is a part of our family.

Our happy guy - 2 and a half months old

Some of our friends have a blog and I love it .. I love reading it and looking at the pictures of their family. (Somehow it makes Texas seem a little closer.) I will try to update often.

I never knew how hard two could be .. or maybe it's just that Ella is now 2. The baby seems easy in comparison. Sometimes I think that I might go crazy!

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
Once a month we have a parenting class on Tuesday nights that starts at 7:00. Child care is provided there, so the kiddos get to come with. Last week Case happened to be in Alabama, so I had to go solo. Every month we have homework and I still hadn't printed it out Tuesday afternoon. Case just bought a new printer and I didn't have the drivers loaded on my computer. So, around 6:00, I was trying to load the drivers, restart the computer, etc. so that I could print off a copy. Ella, who was recently potty trained, noticed that I wasn't paying any attention to her. She continued to ask for snacks, videos, etc. and my only response was "Just wait". She then had an 'accident'. She hadn't had one in about a week. Since we were downstairs I just took off her pants and threw them in the washing machine. I cleaned her off with some wipes and asked her to sit on my lap while I finished what I was doing at the computer. I gave her one instruction: "Do not touch Mommy's computer." She proceeded to look me in the eyes and aggresively touched the keys. In our previous parenting class, we had just learned that discipline had to be 3 things to work: Immediate, Memorable and Consistent. So, applying what I learned, I immediately took her upstairs for some discipline. After I was done, I had her on my lap and told her why I spanked her. She then looked me in the eyes and urinated all over me!! It's funny now, but trust me, it wasn't at the time. We were able to get cleaned up and I still made it to class on time - and I even turned in my homework!
